Responsive website with Matchmedia

Media queries is a great tool, but we often got a problem on loading time and optimization. Often time our website load all the things – even when they don’t apply.

Scott Jehl, Paul Irish, Nicholas Zaka attempts to optimise the loading of CSS based on viewport size and other factors. By using matchMedia() polyfill, we can now test whether a CSS media type or media query applies. Check out Paul Rhayes how to’s, experiment and Christian Hielmann Demo.

Your CSS

.mq {
  -webkit-transition: width 0.001ms;
  -moz-transition: width 0.001ms;
  -o-transition: width 0.001ms;
  transition: width 0.001ms;
  width: 0;
}

Javascript Event Listener

mql = (function(doc, undefined){

  var bool,
      docElem  = doc.documentElement,
      refNode  = docElem.firstElementChild || docElem.firstChild,
      idCounter = 0;

  return function(q, cb) {

    var id = 'mql-' + idCounter++,
      callback = function() {
        cb({ matches: (div.offsetWidth == 42), media: q });
      },
      div = doc.createElement('div');

    div.className = 'mq';
    div.style.cssText = "position:absolute;top:-100em";
    div.id = id;
    div.innerHTML = ' #'+id+' { width: 42px; }';

    div.addEventListener('webkitTransitionEnd', callback, false);
    div.addEventListener('transitionend', callback, false); //Firefox
    div.addEventListener('oTransitionEnd', callback, false); //Opera

    docElem.insertBefore(div, refNode);
    //don’t delete the div, we need to listen to events
    return {
      matches: div.offsetWidth == 42,
      media: q
    };
  };

})(document);

Javascript on the page

$(function() {
  var $dynamic = $('.dynamic');
  mql('all and (max-width: 700px)', change);
  mql('all and (max-width: 500px)', change);
  mql('all and (min-width: 1200px)', change);

  function change(mql) {
    console.log(mql);
    $dynamic.prepend('

' + mql.media + ' — ' + mql.matches + '

'); } });

Amazon Phone

Well… well… Amazon finally launched their smart phone this week. Amazon first phone called Amazon Fire Phone and the technology called Firefly, featured (lackluster) 3D an awesome dynamic perspective, head-tracking stuff and the Amanzon’s new visual search engine.

Everyone initial impression Firefly the apps tailor-made to drive more sales on Amazon, but there’s a little more to it than that. With the ability to recognize hundred million images, sounds and items, even street addresses or phone numbers, Amazon wants to make Firefly a part of your everyday life — As Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos probably doesn’t want you to scribble down another address ever again. And here’s the really big bit: Amazon is making a Firefly SDK available to developers, so they can bake those audio, visual and text-recognition smarts into their own apps. Amazon may have been born unto the internet as a modest bookseller, but it’s now become a services company: There’s the Kindle Lending Library for e-books, plus streaming services like Amazon Instant Video and Prime Music.

Amazon Fire Phone changed Smart Phone with Gesture and Tilt combined, imagined four camera’s with infrared camera sensor.

Fire is a new technology that quickly recognizes printed web and email addresses, phone numbers, QR and bar codes, artwork, movies, music, and millions of products, making it easy to discover information, share items with friends, and more. It works in seconds—simply press and hold the Firefly button.

Fire is the only smartphone to put everything you love about Amazon in the palm of your hand—instant access to over 33 million songs, apps, games, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, magazines, and books, plus exclusive features like Mayday, ASAP, Second Screen, X-Ray, free unlimited photo storage in the cloud, and more.

It’s also packed with powerful hardware—a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization for stunning photos and 1080p HD video, a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM for fast, fluid performance, a beautiful 4.7″ HD display, dual stereo speakers, and Dolby Digital audio.

Applebyte touched iPad

Last Friday, Perry brought Tiger’s iPad on my desk… My first impression… HUGE! The bulk of its surface is taken up by a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768, capacitive, multi-touch LED-backlit display surrounded by a glossy black bezel that some will say is too wide. Well for me, If I decided to have the medium-sized everyday purse and I cannot safely fit an iPad in it. It was fit on my lap, but it will restrain my wrist, Why they didn’t design an iPad stand? Apple byte iPad was not meant to be!

The aluminium back feels great under the finger and nothing feels cheap. There is an audio jack connector for headphones, and a microphone for apps that need it. The speaker is on the bottom of the device where the “Home” button is. The typing was wonderful, unlike the  iTouch with smaller screen.

Surfing and reading is great. Have a great potential if you are using stanza or other ebook reader it was fun. The iPad can be cranked up to an almost painful brightness, but also handles lower settings well — that’s especially important for readers (they even include a brightness control inside of iBooks).

For me, it just like having a big iTouch, women are obviously not the demographic for the iPad, but it will be interesting to see how or if Apple tries to find some niche use for us, I really love my iTouch, thanks to Gerry.  I hope iPad user out there get their money’s worth… Thank Kristel for the Photo!

Stanza revolutionize my reading habit

Stanza is an eBook reader and is a free application of iTouch and iPhone Apple.  I been using it,  since the day Gerry’s bought my iTouch.

Well, before I been reading my fav eBook through my HP Windows Mobile sad to say I’ve been limited to .lit file only. Amazingly Stanza makes my reading more entertaining and easy. Now I can enjoyed reading text file extensions such as pdf, html, lit, txt.  While, Stanza Desktop contains built-in reading support for DRM-free Amazon Kindle, Mobipocket, Microsoft LIT, and PalmDoc, as well as Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format, HTML, and PDF. Stanza iPhone / iPod Touch supports eReader with or without DRM and ePub without DRM. More details can be found on Stanza’s Supported Formats page.

Aside from the page flip animation and the bookmark which I really enjoyed featured,  I also love the xingxang background, the font selector, the cover flow,  the search and organize function, the share local and read global and much much more on the online catalog.

Grab your Stanza now and enjoy your iPhone reading!

I love my Itouch

Ok. I did not score the newest craze Ipad, but Gerry bought me an iTouch.

Wowee, finally i said  goodbye to my old ipod shuffle and my hp window mobile. iTouch makes my life easier, i was able to listen to my fav song and read my .lit ebook through Stanza. Gerry installed free version of  Red Alert Game and Asphal and it was amazing (I will keep using my gentle persuasion to buy the Red Alert Full Version).

Love to have Ipad of Apple

I been waiting for so long and excited about the released of this Apple Tablet, but after I watched the online demo of Steve Job I got frustrated because still it doesn’t play flash, (how can play Cafe World on this big gadget).

I thought Ipad is the junior of  MacBook or Mac Air, with the touch technology, frustrated to found out it was the big brother of Iphone and Itouch.

But well, it look like its going to be my gaming gadget, ebook-reader (way much better on Kindle), DVD player, email tool, home computer, photo-viewer, TV and ‘do just about anything at a touch’ (thanks to Apps) and way cheaper than a MacBook.

The review was not that nice and I still want to know the pros and con of Ipad.  Until then, after 60 days of consumer review, i will  keep my wallet in the pocket.

An Invisible Thread – Heroes Last Episode

Tim Kring is truly a genius, we just watch the last the twenty-fifth and final episode of the third season of the NBC science fiction drama series Heroes and fifty-ninth episode overall. It was aired last April 27 at NBC.

Remember… “I Am Sylar” episode. I love the idea of Sylar shape-shifting abilities and beginning to have identity crisis.

But the fight against Sylar, an awesome twist and a death. The idea of the unconscious Sylar, alter mentally by Matt was truly awesome. Noah knows that Sylar’s acquired ability of reading the history of objects enabling him to fill in the gaps of Nathan’s life, and fully embody Nathan’s personality and gain his memories.

While Sylar, the new ‘Nathan’ confirms the President has indeed shut down Building 26, and the funds transferred so that Angela and Noah can start up their own company which Noah favorably wants to call “The Company”.

It was also sooooo exciting, thanks to NBC they include the Prologue of Volume 5. Woowwwweeee!

Wedding of Grey-Shepherd on 100th episode and Season Finale

Yes I am into Grey’s Anatomy this weekend. Got hooked up in Season 1-5 dvd marathon  and really loved it.

Hope the wedding will never be the same with Kristina and Burke.  After all,  she don’t have to  shave her eyebrows and wear a chain necklace.

I do believe Meredith and Derek are soul mates … Also,  please I also believe in happy ending and all the crappy stuffed such children, getting old and quarrel, lots of discussion and making up. Please make the wedding official, love the post it  agreement/vows but i really wanted to see it will be official either on church or city hall,  it real doesn’t matter.

I hope Dr. Isobel Stevens character will live and I really don’t want another ghost or mere imagination and hallucination of tumor. Hope Alex and Izzie will have a happy ending.  Hope George will have another face and his character remained intact.  Hope Christina and Owen will have love triangle to Burke. Hope Callie come to her senses and be friend with Arizona.

A Prayer for a friend

By:  Casting Crown

Lord I lift my friend to You.
I’ve done all that I know to do.
I lift my friend, to You.
Complicated circumstances  have clouded his view.
Lord I lift my friend up to You.

I fear that I won’t have the words that he needs to hear.
I pray for Your wisdom , oh God.
And a heart that’s sincere.
And Lord I lift my friend up to You.

Lord I lift my friend to You.
My best friend in the world, I know he means much more to You.
I want so much to help him, but  this is something he has to do.
Lord I lift my friend up to You.

There’s a way that seems so right to him.
But You know where that leads.
He’s becoming a puppet of the world.
Too blind to see the strings.
And Lord I lift my friend up to You.

Lord I lift my friend to You.
I’ve done all that I know to do.
I lift my friend, to You.
